Forecasters have identified four potential hazards resulting from thunderstorms expected today and into Thursday morning. A yellow weather warning is in effect for these storms, with the heaviest activity anticipated in Wales and Southwest England, according to the Met Office.
Impending dangers include heavy rain and the possibility of hailstones, prompting a call for Brits to prepare emergency kits containing essentials like torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack. The sudden shift in weather, following temperatures exceeding 30C across the UK in recent days, signifies a significant change, with Cardiff experiencing a high of 32.9C on Tuesday.
The Met Office has highlighted four key hazards for the public to be cautious of during the stormy conditions. While the Environment Agency has not issued flood alerts, concerns were raised for certain Midlands areas earlier, although these warnings have since been lifted due to rapidly changing forecasts.
Anticipated heavy rain, particularly in western regions, could lead to torrential downpours, lightning, large hail, and strong winds. Drizzle is expected to spread from west to east on Thursday, with the Home Counties likely to experience the strongest rainfall in the afternoon, affecting driving conditions, especially during the evening rush hour in parts of Southeast England.
The Met Office’s Thursday forecast suggests mostly dry weather with sunny spells, but there is a possibility of showers and thunderstorms developing later in the day across England and Wales. Warmer temperatures are expected for many areas.
