Donald Trump has issued a serious warning to Oman, suggesting the possibility of military action if they do not comply with international norms. This statement, made during a White House briefing, raised concerns about escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The US President expressed his firm stance against any potential agreement between Iran and Oman to control the vital Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that the waterway should remain open to all, as it falls under international jurisdiction. Trump emphasized the need for vigilance but rejected the idea of granting control to any party through negotiations, asserting that Oman, like other nations, must adhere to international regulations.
These remarks, characterized by their intensity, come at a critical juncture in the efforts to establish peace and stability in the region after prolonged hostilities between the US and Iran. Negotiations have primarily focused on key issues such as Iran’s nuclear activities, economic sanctions, and security assurances as mediators strive to prevent a broader regional conflict.
Recent talks faced a setback when the US refuted claims of a purported peace deal draft as a fabrication. Reports suggested that a potential agreement involved Iran resuming shipping in the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the US lifting its embargo and withdrawing troops, yet these claims were dismissed by American authorities.
During the same meeting, Trump also issued a direct warning to Tehran, hinting at possible military intervention if discussions on Iran’s nuclear program fail to yield progress. While expressing a desire for a deal with Iran, he underscored the importance of reaching a satisfactory agreement and alluded to the possibility of taking further action if necessary.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated the administration’s preference for diplomatic solutions but emphasized the readiness to consider military options if diplomatic efforts falter. Rubio stressed the imperative of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, highlighting the significance of pursuing negotiations while keeping all options on the table.
Trump later remarked on the perceived weakening of Iran during the conflict, stating that their military capabilities had diminished significantly. He also pointed out the dire state of Iran’s economy, describing it as in a state of collapse with a devalued currency and a fractured economic system.
