A mother and her male partner have been convicted of multiple sexual offenses against the woman’s two teenage daughters. The mother, whose identity is protected, had her daughters placed in care due to her drug addiction when they were young, as disclosed in Leicester Crown Court.
The woman and the male defendant were in a relationship for a decade and had four children together, all of whom were also taken into care. As reported by Leicestershire Live, the daughters reestablished contact with their mother during their later teenage years.
In 2022, the older daughter, aged 16 at the time, visited her mother’s residence in central Leicester. While watching a movie with her mother and the man, a disturbing incident occurred where the mother undressed herself, and the man attempted to engage the daughter in sexual activity.
Subsequently, charges were brought against the mother for inciting a child to participate in sexual acts during that event. In a separate incident, the younger daughter, aged 18, was assaulted by the man while alone with him after her mother left to smoke cannabis on the balcony.
The man faced charges including assault by penetration, sexual touching, and two counts of sexual assault for his actions. Both the man and the woman were also accused of intimidating a crime victim by sending threatening voice messages to one of the daughters to deter her from supporting the prosecution.
Despite denying the charges, the couple was found guilty by a jury. The woman later admitted to attempting to obstruct justice. They appeared in court for sentencing, where victim impact statements from the daughters were read, holding their mother accountable for the offenses against them.
The male defendant, with a history of previous convictions, received a prison sentence of five years and one month. The woman was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, along with drug rehabilitation, reoffending prevention courses, and a victim surcharge.
During sentencing, the mother expressed remorse, promising to undergo rehabilitation and cease drug use.
