According to Politico, Al-Khelaifi was seen as a potential replacement for Gianni Infantino as FIFA’s head due to criticism following the recent World Cup in North America and FIFA’s commercial rights sale plans.
However, a close source to Al-Khelaifi stated that he has no interest in running for the FIFA presidency. The 52-year-old remains focused on supporting global and European football entities.
Despite being the chairman of European Football Clubs affected by FIFA’s commercial stakes selling, Al-Khelaifi has no plans to enter the presidential race. Sources close to him, also leading BeIN Media Group, dismissed any speculation about his candidacy, emphasizing his different priorities.
Gianni Infantino is likely to maintain strong support from member associations in South America, Asia, and Africa for the upcoming election, making it challenging for other contenders. Nevertheless, UEFA continues to challenge FIFA in the quest for new leadership.
