“Fire at Jewish Supermarket Not Targeted: Police”

Police have assured the Golders Green community that a significant fire at a Jewish supermarket was not a deliberate or targeted incident. Thick black smoke was visible across northwest London this morning, causing concern among residents following recent antisemitic attacks in the area, including a terror incident last month.

Over 100 firefighters from neighboring areas responded to the three-story building, urging residents to keep their windows closed despite the ongoing heatwave. Authorities have confirmed that the fire, which started at around 7 am, is not considered suspicious and is believed to have originated from an electrical fault.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated that after further investigations with the London Fire Brigade, there is no evidence of a deliberate act, reassuring the community that there was no specific targeting involved. The London Fire Brigade received numerous calls regarding the blaze, with footage circulating on social media showing thick smoke emerging from the Kosher Kingdom supermarket, known as the largest Kosher supermarket in Europe.

A local resident mentioned witnessing the response to the fire, noting that the incident, unfortunately, felt somewhat familiar due to past events in the area. While the cause of the fire is yet to be officially determined, a resident suspected it might have been caused by an overheated fan. Officials have informed residents that access to their homes may be restricted throughout Wednesday afternoon.
