A man has been taken into custody for allegedly stealing human remains from a hospital and cemeteries with the purpose of cooking and consuming them. The 30-year-old individual was apprehended by law enforcement following reports of him removing body parts from the Budapest hospital where he was employed and also from a cemetery, as disclosed by Hungarian police.
The suspect, employed as an orderly in the hospital, is under investigation for violating corpses. Authorities initiated an inquiry after receiving tips that an employee of the hospital was harboring the remains at his residence in one of Budapest’s affluent neighborhoods.
During the search of his residence, officials purportedly discovered a human face, facial skin, bones, a leg, a hand, skulls, and a heart preserved in a jar. The police are currently analyzing the heart to ascertain its origin, whether human or animal.
Law enforcement found a preserved human skin mask, multiple human skulls coated in moss and soil, and other bones stored in a suitcase. It was noted that the suspect openly discussed his macabre collection of human body parts with acquaintances and family.
The man reportedly confessed to authorities about his “irresistible obsession” with human body parts, revealing that he acquired remains from abandoned cemeteries in Hungary and Slovakia. Allegedly, he utilized the body parts in the preparation of various dishes. As part of the investigation, officials seized his vehicle, electronic devices, and communication cards.
DNA testing is ongoing to determine the source of the remains. Police mentioned the likelihood of expanding the scope of charges once the origins of all body parts are identified.
In a statement, the police described the man as having a keen interest in anatomy and pathology, expressing a fondness for animal dissections.
Meanwhile, a convicted killer, David Harker, who admitted to consuming parts of his victim after the crime, has been denied parole for the ninth time. Harker, who killed Julie Paterson in 1998, is currently serving a life sentence for manslaughter due to diminished responsibility. He admitted to eating part of Paterson’s thigh with pasta and cheese.
The Parole Board explained that despite improvements in Harker’s behavior in custody, public safety concerns necessitated his continued detention.
