Disclaimer: The following insights are based on personal experience while working at Morrisons and may not necessarily apply universally. For specific information about discounts at your local store, it is advised to consult the store manager. The issue of rising food costs is a widespread concern, not limited to Morrisons.
The expenses associated with grocery shopping have been escalating, prompting consumers to be increasingly cautious about their purchases regardless of the store they patronize.
Summer typically sees a surge in shopping costs due to seasonal factors like BBQs, picnics, social gatherings, and additional snacks for children.
Drawing from three years of experience as a former Morrisons employee, various strategies were learned. While practices may vary among stores, shopping early in the day or close to closing time is generally recommended.
Morning
Early morning or late-night shopping is advantageous. In the morning, discounted items nearing their expiry date are often placed on sale after being marked down the previous evening, providing a wide selection for customers.
These discounted items may typically be reduced by 25%. Damaged but still usable products are also discounted and displayed with yellow stickers, even if their expiration date is not imminent.
Lunchtime
Midday is generally not the optimal time for finding discounted items, as the best deals are often taken early in the day or remain at their original prices.
Check it anyway
It is recommended to always inspect yellow-stickered items regardless of your shopping list. Items such as cooked meats, chicken bites, and thighs are frequently discounted in this section.
Look for the freezing suitability icon on the packaging, and if feasible, incorporate the discounted items into your meals to save money and potentially enhance your planned dishes.
Evening
Evening shopping often yields deeper discounts, sometimes up to 75% off, making products significantly cheaper.
However, it is advisable not to delay shopping until just before closing time, as many discounted items may have been removed by then. Items nearing their use-by date are usually withdrawn before closing to prevent selling expired products.
