In a bold move, a van driver assisted armed police in apprehending a fleeing suspect by offering a lift during a chase in Kent. Video footage captured the driver stopping as officers pursued a wanted individual in Thanet, urging one officer to join in the back seat.
The incident transpired following reports of a serious assault where the suspect eluded authorities and ran towards Tivoli Road. An armed officer quickly entered the van, leaving the door open, and guided the driver through the pursuit.
“Drive on! Thank you, follow that police officer,” the officer directed as the driver sped after the suspect, eventually pulling ahead of the fleeing individual. The armed officer swiftly exited the van, drew his weapon, and successfully apprehended the suspect.
The driver, unidentified, witnessed the arrest and received gratitude from officers with a handshake for his support. Expressing his relief, he stated, “I am pleased to have been of help. That was quite an adrenaline rush.”
Armed Policing Superintendent Will Lay commended the driver’s swift and selfless action, emphasizing that the arrest would not have been possible without the public-spirited driver. He praised the individual for contributing to community safety and expressed sincere appreciation for the assistance provided.
