The severe weather conditions on Saturday led to travel disruptions, as water entered subway stations and traffic came to a halt due to submerged lanes. Major roadways like the Long Island Expressway and Clearview Expressway experienced temporary closures, while some vehicles were completely submerged above the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, necessitating pedestrians to navigate through waist-high water.
Airports, including John F. Kennedy International, faced delays and cancellations due to the flooding, impacting travel plans for many passengers. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority reported significant service interruptions across the subway network because of water runoff onto the tracks.
Despite the adverse weather, former England goalkeeper Joe Hart shared a video on Instagram of himself walking barefoot through flooded streets, acknowledging the damage to his shoes. The preparations of the World Cup Final teams, Spain and Argentina, were also affected by the inclement weather, with the latter experiencing a delay in their training session due to a thunderstorm.
