Ferrari has been fined £25,512 following an incident at the Belgian Grand Prix where Lewis Hamilton inadvertently struck a crew member with his car during a pit lane mishap. Hamilton, a seven-time Formula 1 champion, was given the go signal to leave the pit stop but stopped shortly after hitting a crew member. Fortunately, the crew member was not seriously injured. Hamilton expressed his concern over the incident, recalling a similar situation involving Kimi Raikkonen in Bahrain.
After the race, Hamilton explained that he moved when he saw the green light, not noticing the mechanic in his path. Ferrari, however, faced repercussions for the incident, with the FIA imposing a significant fine on the team. The stewards reviewed the video evidence and heard from the team representative before making the decision.
The notice issued by the FIA stated that Ferrari has been fined €30,000, with a portion suspended subject to conditions. The team is required to submit a report detailing the incident and the measures implemented to prevent such occurrences in the future. The stewards concluded that Hamilton was not at fault for the incident.
Hamilton finished fourth in the Belgian Grand Prix, with Kimi Antonelli claiming victory and Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen securing podium finishes. As a result, Hamilton currently holds the second position in the Drivers’ Championship standings, trailing Antonelli by 45 points.
