“Man Dies in Canary Islands Boating Tragedy”

A man in his 60s tragically lost his life in the Canary Islands on Sunday after being caught by the propeller of a pleasure boat. The Spanish man was fatally injured while fishing with a friend off the west coast of La Palma, in the municipality of Puntagorda. The incident left the skipper, who witnessed the accident, in a state of shock.

Emergency services responded to reports of the man being severely injured by the boat’s propeller. Despite efforts by rescue teams, including a helicopter and a rescue boat with police and paramedics, the man could not be saved. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.

The recreational boat involved in the accident was taken to the Port of Tazacorte for further examination. The Civil Guard, along with firefighters from the La Laguna park, are conducting a thorough investigation, including a dive with underwater equipment at the scene of the tragedy.

The area where the incident occurred, between Porís de Tijarafe and El Puerto de Puntagorda, is a popular fishing spot accessible only by boat due to the coastal cliffs of Puntagorda. The mayor of Puntagorda, Vicente Rodríguez Lorenzo, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing that the two men involved were longtime friends.

The tragic event has deeply affected the local community and serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with recreational boating activities.
