Ann Widdecombe completed a recently revealed interview in defense of Nigel Farage just moments before her death, according to recent reports. The former Cabinet Minister participated in a ten-minute pre-recorded interview with a Christian radio station, TWR-UK, conducted via zoom last Wednesday. The interview took place between 11:54 am and around 12:10 pm, approximately 20 minutes before the suspected time of her death. Widdecombe, 78, voiced support for Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, who is under scrutiny by the Standards Committee for a £5 million payment from a Thai-based crypto billionaire. She asserted that Farage was a victim of what she referred to as “the politics of personal destruction.”
In the interview, Widdecombe expressed her views on the ongoing scrutiny faced by politicians, stating that there has been a trend of character assassination in politics. An excerpt of the interview, scheduled for broadcast last week but postponed, was aired on Times Radio with the approval of Ann’s family on Tuesday morning. The interviewer, James Maidment Fullard, praised Widdecombe’s kindness, compassion, and articulate expression of opinions during their interactions.
Maidment Fullard recalled Widdecombe’s passion, knowledge, and engaging nature during the interview, emphasizing her ability to articulate views effectively. He shared his shock and sadness upon learning of her passing and highlighted her willingness to engage in various topics, particularly those related to faith and public life.
Widdecombe, a former Tory minister and spokesperson for Reform UK, was discovered deceased in her kitchen, having sustained serious injuries. Police found her body in her isolated cottage, where she resided with her cat. Investigations continue, with a 28-year-old White British man under suspicion for her murder. Counter terror authorities have taken over the case following the discovery of new evidence, leading to the suspect’s re-arrest on terrorism-related charges.
Detectives are examining CCTV footage showing the suspect handling items near the scene of the crime. Neighbors have described the man as solitary and withdrawn, especially after the recent loss of his father. The investigation is ongoing, with a focus on uncovering the circumstances surrounding Widdecombe’s tragic death.
