“Woman Charged with Arson in Manchester Wildfires”

A court appearance is scheduled for a woman facing arson charges in connection with two large wildfires near Manchester. Firefighters have been working to contain the blazes at Dovestone Reservoir in Oldham and Tintwistle Moor near Glossop, both declared as major incidents. Concerns over air quality have arisen due to significant smoke plumes in the area.

The 20-year-old suspect, Shania Care-Slede, from Market Street, Hyde, has been charged with aggravated arson, endangering life recklessly, and dangerous driving. She is in custody and will attend Manchester Magistrates’ Court on July 14. Authorities are investigating the ongoing fire at Dovestones Reservoir and are seeking additional suspects.

Over 70 firefighters, supported by 11 fire engines and four wildfire units, have been dispatched to battle the flames. While charges have been filed against one individual, the investigation continues to identify other potential offenders. The public’s cooperation in providing video evidence is appreciated, and the authorities urge against online speculation.

The Tintwistle wildfire, not linked to Shania Care-Slede, started almost three weeks ago and has already consumed an area equivalent to 350 football pitches. Firefighting efforts are expected to continue for an extended period. The Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service declared a major incident at this location.
