Lewis Hamilton has called on England football fans to refrain from chanting ‘It’s Coming Home’ until the Three Lions actually win the World Cup. The Formula 1 star made this request to supporters of Thomas Tuchel’s team at the start of the tournament in North America, also disclosing his additional support for another team this summer.
Although born in Stevenage and representing Great Britain in his successful F1 career, Hamilton was granted honorary Brazilian citizenship in 2022. Prior to the Monaco Grand Prix, he declared his allegiance to Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazilian team, alongside Harry Kane and the England squad.
Expressing his admiration for Brazil, Hamilton stated, “Brazil has always been my beloved team. Watching Brazil play while growing up in England was a joy for me. Their colors, culture, and skilled players always captivated me; they exuded a cool aura.”
His remarks stirred considerable reactions back home, but ahead of the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix media day, Hamilton reaffirmed his support for Brazil, even as the World Cup kicked off with Mexico versus South Africa.
When asked about his World Cup forecasts, Hamilton admitted not closely following the event but pledged to keep an eye on England’s progress. He cautioned against premature chants of ‘It’s Coming Home,’ emphasizing the importance of waiting until the victory is secured. Hamilton expressed eagerness to watch Brazil in action and shared his excitement for the tournament.
In his recent races, Hamilton finished second twice and seems to have found his form since joining Ferrari. While eyeing a potential first win with the team, he acknowledged that Mercedes would need to falter or Ferrari must significantly close the performance gap to the dominant Silver Arrows.
Hamilton emphasized his team’s pursuit of victory through performance rather than external circumstances. He highlighted the collective effort within the team, emphasizing continuous improvement and the positive changes he has brought this year.
