Alpine’s Right of Review Sows Monaco GP Result Uncertainty

Alpine’s Right of Review Application Adds Uncertainty to Monaco Grand Prix Outcome

The aftermath of the recent Monaco Grand Prix has been thrown into doubt as Alpine has made progress with their Right of Review application. Following the race in Monte Carlo, Alpine triggered the Right of Review regarding two penalties imposed on their driver, Pierre Gasly, for exceeding the pit lane speed limit.

Gasly, among other penalized drivers, received double penalties for minor speed infractions close to the 60kph limit in the Monaco pit lane. Gasly, who initially finished third, was later pushed down to seventh due to the penalties. He expressed frustration, deeming the situation unfair, leading Alpine to initiate the Right of Review process.

To proceed with the review, Alpine had to present new and relevant evidence not available to the stewards during the initial ruling. Alpine successfully met this challenging requirement, arguing that the stewards were unaware of pre-existing issues with the timing loops in the pit lane used to measure car speeds, which affected Gasly’s penalties.

Alpine provided evidence that Gasly had activated his speed limiter before entering the pit lane, supported by testimony from Gasly and evidence from Formula One Management indicating inaccuracies in speed measurements due to faulty timing loops during the Grand Prix.

The case will proceed to a second hearing where Alpine will contest the penalties on Gasly. If successful, the Monaco race results could be revised, potentially sparking reactions from other teams facing similar penalties, including George Russell.
