Zelenskyy Urges Defending U.S. Sanctions Amid Russian Threats

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on his supporters to defend the new U.S. sanctions against Russia. This call came after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order halting a comprehensive set of restrictions aimed at the Russian economy. Concerns have been raised that Ukraine may face increased vulnerability to Russian attacks as winter approaches due to the White House’s decision.

Zelenskyy expressed disappointment over the pause in sanctions, acknowledging the strained relations between Ukraine and the U.S. However, he refrained from directly criticizing Trump. The Ukrainian president emphasized the importance of the Lindsey Graham Act in pressuring Russia to end the conflict and hoped that the sanctions could be reinstated with the support of the international community.

Highlighting the impact of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Zelenskyy stated that over 15 locations across the country had been targeted. He described the relentless nature of the attacks as having severe consequences, particularly on the energy sector.

On a separate front, the Russian Defence Ministry claimed to have seized control of eight additional Ukrainian settlements, including Dobropillia in the eastern Donetsk region. Despite Russia’s assertions, Ukraine’s General Staff refuted the claim, asserting that Ukrainian forces maintained control over Dobropillia.

In response to Russia’s alleged territorial gains, Ukraine dismissed claims of widespread capture of Ukrainian territory and settlements by Russian forces since September 1. The Defence Ministry of Russia reported targeting Ukrainian drone storage facilities and transport infrastructure utilized by the Ukrainian armed forces in recent operations.

The escalating conflict between Russia and Ukraine has raised concerns about potential further hostilities, including attacks on Ukrainian ports, which could impact vital exports such as wheat. Both nations have engaged in conflicting reports of territorial gains and military actions, exacerbating tensions in the region.
