“Teenage Boy to Stand Trial for Alleged Murder of 14-Year-Old Girl”

A teenage boy, aged 14, is set to stand trial for the alleged murder of Lilly Jones, a 14-year-old girl whose body was discovered in a park in south Wales. The accused, whose identity is protected by law, appeared in Cardiff Crown Court to face the charges.

The arrest of the defendant followed the finding of a body in the Duffryn Park area of Blaina, south Wales, on June 22, with formal identification pending. Lilly was last seen on June 20 in High Street, Blaina, and parts of Pilgrims Park were sealed off after the discovery of the body.

The trial date has been scheduled to commence on November 23, lasting four weeks, with a plea and trial preparation hearing set for July 24, as determined by Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke. The youth, who did not enter a plea for the murder charge, was remanded in custody until the next court appearance.

Floral tributes were laid near the location where the body was found. Lilly was a student at Brynmawr Foundation School, and head teacher Gerard McNamara expressed deep sorrow at her passing, praising her kind and friendly nature. The school is providing support to affected individuals, cooperating with relevant agencies to offer assistance where needed.

Detective Chief Inspector Steven Thomas of Gwent Police extended condolences to Lilly’s family and friends, emphasizing the importance of responsible language in ongoing investigations. He confirmed the continuation of inquiries and the presence of law enforcement in the area, thanking residents for their cooperation and understanding during the process.
