“Qantas to Launch Record-Breaking Non-Stop Flight in 2027”

A forthcoming flight is poised to set a new record as the longest non-stop journey globally starting next year. Currently, Singapore Airlines holds the title for the longest nonstop flight, covering the distance from Singapore to New York in 19 hours. However, this record will soon be surpassed by Qantas, which plans to introduce a new non-stop route in 2027 from Sydney, Australia, to London.

The upcoming non-stop flight, equipped with a 20,000-litre fuel tank, eliminates the need for refueling stops and will span 10,573 miles, earning the nickname “the final frontier of long-haul travel” by Qantas. Travel expert Simon Calder shared insights on this groundbreaking flight, stating that it involves a specially modified Airbus A350 Twin Jet crafted for Qantas to enable a nonstop journey from London Heathrow to Sydney in October 2027, spanning over 20 hours in the air.

Traditionally, travelers to Australia have layovers in the Middle East, but there is a growing demand for direct long-haul flights. Qantas anticipates a willing “premium customer base” ready to pay a 20% premium for a one-stop flight directly to Sydney. Additionally, many passengers prefer the convenience of a single-flight journey without layovers in intermediate cities like Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, or Abu Dhabi.

Addressing concerns about rising fuel prices, Qantas remains confident due to the mounting interest in direct flights to Australia, negating the necessity for Middle East stopovers. In anticipation of the extended flight duration, Qantas is enhancing passenger comfort by reducing the passenger capacity to 238 seats, nearly 100 seats fewer than those on comparable flights by British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.

Initially, the record-breaking flight was slated to depart from New York instead of London. Notably, New York will soon have its direct flight to Australia, offering a slightly shorter flight duration.
