A distressed mother has made a firm decision not to send her two-year-old daughter back to her childcare facility after an incident that resulted in the toddler sustaining a concussion and fractures to her forehead and eye socket.
Kimberley received a call from Little Explorers PZ LTD in Penzance, Cornwall, on Tuesday, where she was informed that her daughter had a minor “bump” and a “graze” from a “fall at the park.” However, upon arriving at the nursery, she discovered that her daughter, Amethyst, had actually fallen two meters off a bandstand onto a concrete wall.
Upon reaching the nursery on Queen Street in Penzance, Kimberley found her daughter with significant injuries including a swollen face, a split lip, and a black eye. She rushed Amethyst to the hospital for immediate medical attention.
Recounting the distressing event, Kimberley expressed shock at the severity of her daughter’s injuries and the lack of urgency in handling the situation by the nursery staff. She highlighted concerns about the delayed medical response and the downplaying of the incident when communicating with her over the phone.
The incident involved a two-meter fall at Morrab Gardens in Penzance, captured on CCTV, where the child was returned to the nursery in a pram and allowed to sleep. Kimberley and her partner were advised by the police not to view the footage due to its distressing nature.
Following the incident, Ofsted suspended Little Explorers PZ LTD from providing childcare due to potential harm to children. The regulatory body cited concerns about the safety of children in their care and emphasized the need to eliminate any risks before resuming operations.
A hospital report detailed Amethyst’s injuries, which included a black eye, bruising, swelling, dried blood, and a skull fracture extending into her eye socket. Devon and Cornwall Police conducted a safeguarding inquiry related to the childcare provider in Penzance, although no criminal offenses were identified at that time.
Little Explorers PZ LTD has yet to respond to requests for comment on the matter.
