“Lidl Expands Self-Scanning Trial to 37 UK Stores”

Lidl is set to expand its self-scanning trial, Lidl & Go, to an additional 37 stores across the United Kingdom. The innovative system allows customers to conveniently scan products using the Lidl Plus app on their smartphones while shopping, streamlining the checkout process by already having items scanned upon arrival.

The gradual rollout of Lidl & Go will extend to shoppers in Scotland, the South East, and the broader South of England throughout July. This expansion follows a successful trial at seven initial stores including Airdrie, Cardiff, Epsom, Glenrothes, Kingston, Guilford, and Eastleigh.

Louise Weise, Chief Customer Officer at Lidl GB, expressed satisfaction with the positive response to the initial phase of Lidl & Go, noting customers appreciate the control, visibility, and flexibility it offers. The upcoming wave of stores will make this feature accessible to more customers, with ongoing feedback shaping further improvements.

In addition to the Lidl & Go expansion, Lidl recently revamped its loyalty scheme, Lidl Plus, enabling users to earn points for every £1 spent in-store. These points can be converted into coupons for free products or discounts on purchases. The revamped system replaces previous monthly spending thresholds, providing shoppers with increased flexibility.

While some customers have raised concerns about the revised rewards structure, Lidl assures that users may earn multiple points per £1 spent through various promotions such as Rewards of the Week, double points, triple points, or free points on selected items.

By offering enhanced convenience and rewards through Lidl & Go and Lidl Plus, the supermarket chain aims to cater to evolving customer preferences and shopping habits.
