Aldi is implementing a new trial where some of its stores will close an hour earlier than usual. Instead of closing at 10pm, these shops will now shut down at 9pm. While some stores have already adopted this change, others are expected to follow suit later this month.
The affected stores have not been disclosed by Aldi, but signs are being displayed in the shops to inform customers. An Aldi employee in Heanor, Derbyshire, announced on Facebook that their store would be closing at 9pm from Monday to Saturday, with no change on Sundays. This adjustment will initially be on a trial basis but is likely to become the permanent operating hours thereafter.
Another Aldi branch in the West Midlands is reported to close at 9pm starting from July 16. Currently, around 48 out of Aldi’s 1,084 stores already close at 9pm. The supermarket aims to expand its presence to 1,500 stores in the UK in the long run.
Aldi emphasized its commitment to offering the lowest prices to customers and stated that their efficient business model allows for continuous efforts to provide even greater savings. The company recently announced plans to open 16 new stores in various locations, including Watford, Hoxton in London, Hattersley in Greater Manchester, and Balsall Common in the West Midlands.
Moreover, Aldi will be upgrading 25 stores across the UK, enhancing shopping spaces and introducing sustainable features like energy-efficient fridge doors. Specific improvements will be made in bakery, health and beauty, and fresh food sections at select locations. Store enhancements are also planned for Liverpool, London, Aberdeen, Nottingham, and Manchester, with extensions in York, Liverpool, and Yarm to create a more spacious shopping environment with wider aisles.
These store upgrades are part of Aldi’s extensive investment plan, which includes a £300 million investment in existing stores and a commitment of £370 million towards opening new stores nationwide.
