Around 100 firefighters are currently working to extinguish a large fire in south-east London. The incident, unfolding on Rye Lane in Peckham, involves a shop and storage unit, with thick smoke visible in the sky as emergency crews confront the flames.
London Fire Brigade (LFB) has deployed fifteen fire engines to the scene, including two 32-meter turntable ladders to combat the fire from above. The first of over 30 emergency calls reporting the fire was received by control officers at 8:54 pm, though the cause of the blaze remains unknown.
With safety in mind, LFB has advised the public to steer clear of the affected area. Additionally, local residents have been cautioned to keep windows and doors shut due to the significant smoke presence in the vicinity.
Reportedly, the fire is centered around Copeland Park, known as “Peckham’s Creative Quarter.” LFB spokesperson emphasized the ongoing efforts of firefighters at the location on Rye Lane and reiterated the importance of residents keeping their doors and windows closed due to the smoke.
