“Reckless Driver Hits Friend: Tragic Collision in Swansea”

Horror footage captured the moment a reckless driver hit his close friend while driving at high speed in what seemed like a reckless game. Mehmet Celik, aged 24, collided with Thomas Rees using his vehicle when tasked with picking him up after a night out, resulting in Rees suffering a severe brain injury.

Photographs presented in court depicted Mr. Rees sprawled on the street following the collision with Celik’s Kia in Swansea, Wales. The court learned that the two had been longtime friends, having shared their educational journey from school to university.

On the night of the incident, Mr. Rees, 23, messaged Celik for a ride home after 1 am. According to the prosecution, Celik bypassed their meeting point and executed a wide turn at a junction just as Mr. Rees was attempting to enter the car on the passenger side, resulting in the tragic collision.

The impact was so forceful that Mr. Rees lost his shoes in the crash, as described by the prosecutor. Passersby, including Celik who was visibly distressed, rushed to assist until Mr. Rees was airlifted to a medical facility.

Medical reports revealed that Mr. Rees suffered severe injuries, including brain bleeding, lung blood clot, broken breastbone, and fractured calf bone, necessitating an extended hospital stay.

Celik’s driving was found to be dangerously erratic, with a police investigation determining that he was traveling at 36mph on the wrong side of the 20mph road. As a result of the crash, Celik’s vehicle sustained significant damage to the front windscreen, bonnet, and headlights.

Celik admitted guilt to causing serious harm through dangerous driving. A statement from Mr. Rees highlighted the prolonged and distressing nature of his recovery, with lasting impacts on his daily life.

During the legal proceedings, Celik’s defense lawyer, David Singh, acknowledged Celik’s grave error in judgment, attributing it to youthful bravado that led to disastrous consequences. The judge, Geraint Walters, condemned the reckless behavior, emphasizing the need for responsible driving and the tragic outcome of Celik’s actions.

Celik received an 18-month suspended sentence for dangerous driving, along with a four-month nightly curfew. Additionally, he was mandated to perform 300 hours of community service and faced a two-year driving ban for his role in the incident.
