Kimi Antonelli emerged victorious at the Italian Grand Prix over the weekend, defying the odds by starting from the 19th position on the starting grid. Within just 17 laps, the Mercedes driver made a remarkable surge to the front of the pack. The majority of the race was marked by intense competition with teammate and championship contender George Russell for the lead. Antonelli executed a decisive overtake on Russell with three laps remaining, securing his historic victory at Monza, the first by an Italian in six decades.
Expressing his elation, Antonelli exclaimed, “Oh my god … it feels like a dream.” This triumph provided a much-needed highlight for the spectators following an early crash by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, their home team driver. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton, driving for Ferrari, finished in sixth place.
The Italian Grand Prix win marked Antonelli’s seventh triumph of the season, solidifying his dominance in the championship race with a commanding 66-point lead over Russell.
