Expressing satisfaction with his performance, Bednarek mentioned, “I’m pleased with this outcome, especially considering the cold weather (16 C) and feeling a bit under the weather… I couldn’t ask for more.” The 27-year-old hinted at even better results to come when facing top competitors in Budapest next week, stating, “If I execute well, I could achieve a significant personal best.”
Canadian athlete Andre De Grasse, who had qualified for the men’s 200m, withdrew due to prior commitments as he focuses on the upcoming Ultimate Championship. In other events, Audrey Werro of Switzerland triumphed in the women’s 800m, clocking 1:54.75 to hold off Femke Broeders-Bol from the Netherlands, setting the stage for an anticipated showdown at the Ultimate Championship.
Nearing the end of the Diamond League season, Masai Russell clinched the women’s 100m hurdles title with a time of 12.20, surpassing Devynne Charlton from the Bahamas, who finished second in 12.33. Brazilian athlete Alison dos Santos secured a comfortable victory in the men’s 400m hurdles with a time of 46.70.
Tina Clayton of Jamaica claimed her first Diamond League title in the women’s 100m, clocking 10.93 seconds. The men’s 5,000m saw Birhanu Balew of Bahrain dominate with a world-leading time of 12:45.70, while Klaudia Kazimierska of Poland set a world-leading time of 3:54.05 in the women’s 1,500m.
Jamaican shot putter Rajindra Campbell threw 23.08 meters, the farthest in the season globally, to win the men’s shot put event. Campbell expressed his delight at achieving a significant throw and spoke about his aspirations to continue improving, aiming for the world record of 23.56 meters. The Diamond League Final featured the top performers from the season’s 14 meetings, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the athletics season.
