“Israel Struggles with Trump’s Iran Deal Constraints”

US President Donald Trump’s controversial agreement with Iran has put Israel in a difficult position, according to a high-ranking Israeli official. The deal prohibits fighting in Lebanon, which has angered many Israelis who believe that Israel should have the right to defend itself, particularly against Hezbollah. Despite the agreement, Israel will continue to target Hezbollah, albeit possibly at a slower pace.

Former Israeli war veteran Brigadier General (res) Assaf Orion emphasized Israel’s determination to disarm Hezbollah, even in the face of opposition post the agreement. There are concerns that Trump’s focus may shift towards China, which is seen as a more significant long-term threat. Orion suggested that the US might want to resolve conflicts in the Middle East swiftly before they escalate further.

Trump’s dissatisfaction with Israeli military actions in Lebanon was highlighted, with his preference for less aggressive tactics. There were even mentions of unconventional ideas such as a new Syrian government led by a former al-Qaeda member taking on Hezbollah. The Israeli Defense Forces are also facing challenges protecting themselves against drone attacks in Syria.

Despite the complexities, Israel aims to maintain its independence in dealing with threats in Lebanon. However, the constraints imposed by the US pose a challenge in this regard. The situation remains precarious, with Israel navigating between its own security concerns and international pressures.
