Each province and territory operates its own system, resulting in discrepancies in the counting of heat-related deaths between regions. The issue lies in the ambiguity surrounding deaths that occur during high temperatures. Initiatives such as providing air conditioners to those in need, enhancing funding for long-term care facilities, and implementing a standardized heat alert system were introduced to prevent similar tragedies. The global scale of the heat-related deaths issue was exemplified during the deadly European heatwave in June, where thousands of excess fatalities were recorded across Germany, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
