Family Tragedy in South London: Three Fall to Their Deaths

A tragic incident unfolded in south London as a family of three, consisting of a mother, father, and their nine-year-old son, fell from a high-rise tower block onto another building, resulting in their deaths. The victims were identified as Aditi Vijay Paralkar, 46, a real estate property developer, Rakesh Narayan Pai, 47, and their son Sid Rene Pai-Paralkar. The unfortunate event occurred at the Uncle residential tower on Churchyard Row in Elephant and Castle on May 27.

According to Detective Sergeant Simon Monga of the Metropolitan Police, the family plummeted from a height onto the adjacent building, and their bodies were later recovered by the London Fire Brigade. During the inquest proceedings, Assistant Coroner Michelle Haste disclosed that Ms. Paralkar and Mr. Pai succumbed to multiple injuries, while the cause of Sid’s death is pending determination.

Emergency services responded to the scene at 7:29 am following reports of the incident, and all three individuals were pronounced dead on-site. Ms. Haste detailed that Mr. Pai was declared deceased at 7:43 am, followed by Ms. Paralkar at 8:05 am, and Sid at 8:06 am, with their identities formally confirmed using their passports recovered from their residence.

Investigations into the tragic event are ongoing, as stated by Mr. Monga, who mentioned that the examination of pathology and forensic evidence is underway to establish the sequence of events. The inquest has been adjourned until the completion of the police inquiry, with an estimated timeframe of at least six months for a pediatric pathologist to compile a report on Sid’s demise.

Expressing support for the ongoing police investigation, Ms. Haste emphasized the importance of allowing ample time for a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths. Bermondsey and Old Southwark MP Neil Coyle relayed information about the family, highlighting that they resided on the 36th floor of the 45-story tower block and that Sid had significant health issues, including kidney disease and being home-schooled.

The Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed that detectives are actively investigating the incident, which claimed the lives of the family members, and are providing support to the next-of-kin. The deaths are currently being treated as unexpected, with efforts underway to formally identify the deceased individuals and offer assistance to their families.
