Prince Harry has revealed the upcoming location for the Invictus Games following a successful visit to the UK to promote the 2027 event. The Duke of Sussex journeyed to his homeland earlier this month to participate in a significant gathering in Birmingham, marking one year until the next Games. During his visit, he engaged with officials and veterans.
Recently, Harry announced that Daejeon, South Korea, will host the 2029 Invictus Games, expressing his joy for the opportunity to hold the competition in this new location. This marks the first time the event will be held in Asia.
As the founder of the Invictus Games, Harry announced the selection of Daejeon, South Korea as the host for the 2029 Games. He conveyed his excitement about collaborating with the Invictus Games Foundation in a statement, highlighting the significance of having the Republic of Korea as the first Asian nation to host the event.
The decision to host the Games in South Korea is seen as a chance to enhance support for the military community in Asia and demonstrate the positive impact of sports on rehabilitation and well-being. The event is scheduled to take place from October 6 to 15, 2029, in and around the Daejeon Convention Centre in Yuseong-gu, with 550 competitors from 26 countries participating in 12 sports, alongside 1,100 family members and friends.
Lord Allen, chair of the Invictus Games Foundation, expressed delight at the announcement, describing it as a pivotal moment for the Invictus Movement. He emphasized the importance of expanding the reach of the Games to benefit more wounded service personnel and veterans globally.
Established in 2014 by Harry, the Invictus Games aim to challenge perceptions of disability, promote adaptive sports, and showcase the resilience of wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans.
During his recent visit to the UK, Harry attended the One Year To Go ceremony, engaging in various sports activities with notable figures and former competitors. The event featured new sports added to the 2027 Games program, including pickleball, wheelchair rugby, and laser run, underscoring the Games’ commitment to inclusivity and empowerment.
