Family in India Mourns Tragic Loss of Stabbing Victim

The sibling of a woman who was fatally stabbed while lying next to her husband and infant has shared the profound sorrow their family is experiencing. Living thousands of miles away in India, the family finds solace in the support shown during vigils in west London as they await the repatriation of Kirandeep Kaur’s remains. The 24-year-old was tragically killed at her residence on Uxbridge Road in Hayes during the early hours of July 12.

Expressing his sentiments through a translator from their residence in Punjab, Kirandeep’s older brother, Paljinder Singh, mentioned how the community coming together in her memory has been a source of comfort amidst their grief. He expressed, “If we had foreseen the tragedy, we would have never let her go.”

The family fervently hopes for Kirandeep’s body to be brought back to India to bid her a final farewell. Singh expressed, “I will no longer hear her voice over the phone, but I yearn to catch one last glimpse of her.”

Having relocated to the UK two years ago for studies at Buckinghamshire New University, the young woman later secured employment at a local grocery store after her plans to settle in Canada did not materialize. Her family in Tarn Taran, Punjab, never imagined London would become her permanent abode.

Reflecting on her departure, Singh shared, “Two years ago when she left, we never fathomed she wouldn’t return.” He added, “She was an exceptional individual. Anyone in the village would attest to that. She was always ready to assist others and brought joy wherever she went. Following the tragic events, life will never be the same. I will forever cherish her memory.”

The untimely demise of the 24-year-old prompted a series of processions and vigils across west London, where the community gathered to honor the graduate and stand in solidarity with her family.

Despite the physical distance, Singh expressed gratitude for the support received, stating, “We are deeply appreciative of the vigils. The community united to highlight the case. Hopefully, this tragedy will not befall another family.”

Daniel Sean James, a resident of west London, has been charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a bladed weapon. Prosecutors allege that he assaulted Kirandeep at her residence before fleeing through a window, sustaining injuries to both ankles. He was subsequently apprehended by law enforcement officers nearby.

James appeared at the Old Bailey via videolink from Wormwood Scrubs, where Judge Nigel Lickley KC remanded him into custody. The defendant is scheduled to enter his pleas on October 1.
