A teenager named Euan Lonnen demonstrated quick thinking when he intervened to prevent a car crash involving two women, as captured on CCTV footage. Euan, 18, was working at a cafe when he noticed a driverless vehicle slowly moving across a parking lot with passengers in the back.
Upon realizing the situation, Euan swiftly chased after the car. Initially attempting to turn the steering wheel to no avail, he then decided to enter the vehicle and engage the handbrake, successfully stopping it just before it collided with another parked car.
Reflecting on the incident, Euan shared, “I was alerted by a customer about the unmanned rolling car, prompting me to take action. Despite my initial attempt to steer the car, the locked wheel prevented it. In a split-second decision, I entered the car and applied the handbrake, narrowly avoiding a collision with the adjacent car.”
Fortunately, the passengers were unharmed, and both vehicles emerged unscathed from the incident. Euan, who was on duty as a supervisor at Highland Farm Cafe in Dingwall, Scotland, received accolades from impressed customers and colleagues. The cafe owners, Kenneth and Lesley, later posted the CCTV footage on social media, garnering significant attention and positive feedback.
Kenneth commended Euan’s heroism, stating, “We are immensely proud of Euan’s swift response to the runaway car. His commitment to customer safety is exemplary, as demonstrated in this remarkable act of vigilance. His intervention undoubtedly averted a potential disaster for the two passengers who were unsecured at the time.”
