Canada’s Camryn Rogers emerged victorious in the women’s hammer throw event held during the Diamond League meet on Sunday at the expansive Silesian Stadium in Chorzow, Poland. The athlete from Richmond, B.C., recorded her top throw at 77.09 meters on her fourth attempt, showcasing her prowess as the current Olympic, world, and Commonwealth Games champion.
DeAnna Price of the United States secured the second spot with a throw of 75.23 meters, while Italy’s Sara Fantini claimed the third position with a distance of 71.95 meters. Canadian dominance in the hammer throw event continued with Ethan Katzberg from Nanaimo, B.C., clinching victory in the men’s competition with a best throw of 82.92 meters. Katzberg now holds titles in the Olympic, world, and Commonwealth Games.
In the men’s 100m race, top sprinters including world champion Oblique Seville of Jamaica, two-time Olympic silver medallist Kenny Bednarek of the United States, and former world champion Christian Coleman are set to compete. The women’s 100m event will also feature a strong lineup, including athletes like Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden from the U.S., Zoe Hobbs from New Zealand, Sha’Carri Richardson from the U.S., and Tina Clayton, the runner-up at the previous world championships.
The global track and field season is set to wrap up with the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship scheduled for September 11-13 in Budapest. Katzberg has secured an automatic qualification for the Ultimate Championship due to his current Olympic and world champion status in the men’s hammer throw. However, Rogers, despite holding the same prestigious titles in the women’s hammer throw category, will not participate as this event is not part of the championship program.
