A British woman, identified as Brooke George, is currently detained in Dubai and facing allegations of murdering a man she met online. The incident took place in the city’s Bur Dubai prison, where she is being held. Detained in Dubai, a group representing her family, contends that George acted in self-defense.
Reportedly, George, a former John Lewis shop assistant and a prominent TikTok influencer with a large following, is accused of fatally stabbing a 26-year-old British man with a kitchen knife. The two reportedly connected on Facebook, leading to a photoshoot organized by the man in Dubai.
George shared that her initial visit to Dubai was positive, but an altercation occurred during her second trip after a night out at Caffreys Bar. She claimed to have been attacked, leading her to defend herself with a kitchen knife. Despite attempting to leave the country, George was arrested at Dubai International Airport on June 22 and charged with murder, potentially facing the death penalty.
Following her arrest, George alleged mistreatment, including being denied legal representation and forced to strip naked in front of male officers without female supervision, causing her distress. Her mother expressed deep concern for her daughter’s well-being, emphasizing her fear and the need to return home.
Detained in Dubai’s CEO, Radha Stirling, called for authorities to view the case as one of domestic abuse, advocating for George’s release on bail pending further investigation. Stirling highlighted the importance of protecting George’s rights, ensuring a fair trial, and thoroughly examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Stirling also pointed out previous cases of women, including influencers and models, being exploited in Dubai under false pretenses, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive investigation into George’s situation. She urged authorities to handle George’s allegations seriously and provide necessary support, medical care, legal aid, and British consular assistance.
The Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office has been approached for comment on the matter.
