“King Charles to Publicly Disclose Full Tax Details”

King Charles has announced his decision to disclose his complete personal tax details as a move towards enhancing transparency in royal finances. Today, the King is set to make public his annual tax payment, becoming the first monarch to do so.

According to a palace insider, King Charles is determined to share his tax information for the first time, given the heightened scrutiny surrounding the Firm’s finances. The disclosure will encompass the total tax amount paid by the King, inclusive of income from personal wealth, investments, and specific Capital Gains tax.

When questioned about the rationale behind expanding the palace’s financial disclosures, a Palace aide, as reported by the Telegraph, stated that the King believed it was the appropriate course of action. The aide expressed the King’s hope that this step would greatly contribute to the public’s comprehension of the Sovereign Grant, Duchy of Lancaster, and private revenue sources.

The private funds, including earnings from investments, trading profits, revenues from Balmoral and Sandringham estates, and personal savings, will be part of the revealed information. The Duchy of Lancaster estate, which consists of land, investments, and various properties, provides the King with an annual income. In the 2024/2025 fiscal year, this income amounted to £26.8 million, with Charles voluntarily paying the highest UK income tax rate on these earnings.

Originally established to provide the reigning monarch with independent income known as the Privy Purse, the Duchy of Lancaster estate caters to both official and personal expenses, as well as supporting other members of the Royal Family.

Today, alongside other reports on royal finances, the King’s complete personal tax details for the 2024-25 financial year will be disclosed. However, the tax information for the subsequent year, 2025-26, will be released once the audit is finalized.

The announcement of King Charles’ tax disclosure was made last week by Buckingham Palace, emphasizing the thoroughness of the annual Sovereign Grant Report and its alignment with government oversight, parliamentary scrutiny, media examination, and public interest.

The Palace emphasized its commitment to continuous improvement and transparency, aiming to provide a clear and accessible explanation of Royal finances while maintaining historical and constitutional context.

Prior to assuming the throne, King Charles had already made public his tax information during his tenure as Prince of Wales, managing the Duchy of Cornwall, which has now passed to Prince William.
