Tragic Heatwave Incident: Child dies in car in France

An 18-month-old child tragically passed away in France during the heatwave after reportedly being left in a car unintentionally by a parent heading to work. The incident occurred at the university medical campus in Marseille, where the child was discovered unconscious inside a parked vehicle. Despite efforts by firefighters to rush the child to La Timone Hospital for treatment of hyperthermia, the child could not be saved.

According to reports from BFM Marseille Provence, it is believed that the parent accidentally left the toddler in the car while commuting to work at the campus. This heartbreaking event unfolded amidst France’s severe heatwave, with temperatures surpassing normal levels across the nation.

The ongoing heatwave has led to exceptionally high temperatures ranging from 32C to 38C in various parts of France and western Europe. Weather forecasts from AccuWeather suggest that this hot spell will persist until the week’s end. Notably, Wednesday marked a record-breaking day in France, with the national weather agency Météo-France reporting the highest temperature ever recorded at 43.8C in Palluau, Vendée, exceeding previous records.
