Newly released video footage reveals the killer of Henry Nowak informing the police that he was bleeding before they discovered he had been fatally stabbed after an eight-minute delay. In the footage, Vickrum Digwa falsely accuses Henry, 18, of racially motivated violence in Southampton. Digwa, a 23-year-old Sikh murderer, claims that Henry sustained his bloody injuries either from a “punch” or falling while climbing on bins. He alleges that Henry, who was allegedly drunk, attacked him and removed his turban. Digwa, who was not handcuffed upon his arrest for attempted murder, received a 23-year prison sentence for murder and possession of a weapon. The incident occurred in December the previous year as Henry was returning from a night out at university.
In the video, Digwa’s father, Moga Singh, asserts that his son was assaulted, stating that the man on the ground attacked his son. Digwa explains that Henry pushed his turban off and grabbed his hair, leading to a physical altercation. When questioned about the wound on Henry, Digwa claims it occurred when they punched him and he fell over bins onto a car. Despite his denials, Digwa was arrested for attempted murder, prompting him to question the reason for his arrest.
During the trial, it was revealed that Henry had recorded Digwa carrying a ceremonial Sikh blade, though this footage was not made public. Digwa’s false statements resulted in Henry being handcuffed while dying, with protests erupting in Southampton. Hampshire Constabulary is now under investigation by the IOPC regarding the arrest. The trial also exposed Digwa as a weapons enthusiast with an array of weapons in his family home.
