A young giraffe named Gracie has gone missing for almost two weeks, causing a challenging search at Cedar Hollow Ranch in Texas. The owner, Vic Jones, explained that Gracie ventured into an unfamiliar area of the property, complicating efforts to locate her.
Jones utilized helicopters in the extensive search for the tall giraffe, with sightings reported but no success in capturing her. Despite the rural location of the ranch in Real County, where residents have been alerted to be on the lookout, Gracie has remained elusive in the rough, wooded terrain.
This incident marks the first time a giraffe has disappeared from the ranch, although Jones has dealt with other escaped animals in the past. While Texas is not a typical habitat for giraffes, Jones believes Gracie can find sustenance without facing significant threats.
The search initially covered a vast area, but delayed information has hindered progress in tracking Gracie’s movements. A reward of $5,000 (£3,600) is being offered for assistance in locating the missing giraffe and ensuring her safe return.
In a separate incident, two baby giraffes that went missing from a Virginia zoo were safely located, suggesting a positive outcome for Gracie as well. Authorities have relocated the calves to a specialized facility for giraffe care, maintaining their safety and well-being.
