Ten Toronto residents who were part of a group trekking in Nepal are currently missing following fatal flash flooding in the region. Leslie Crespi, a community liaison for the Isha Foundation in North America, disclosed that these individuals are among 80 members of the foundation who remain unaccounted for. Out of the 12 Canadians on the journey, 10 are reported missing.
Crespi mentioned that there has been no communication with the 80 individuals involved in the trek since they were in Gyirong County, Tibet, where the flooding occurred. The group, consisting of participants from 19 different countries, was returning from the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra pilgrimage, a significant religious journey for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon followers.
The Isha Foundation was notified by the trek’s coordinator about the situation just before the flooding hit the Chinese immigration center where they were located. Crespi expressed the shock and devastation felt by the families of the missing group members, emphasizing the profound impact of the unforeseen tragedy on their community.
Efforts are ongoing to stay informed through contact with embassies and officials. The situation remains uncertain, leaving loved ones and the organization deeply concerned for the well-being of those still unaccounted for.
