“Zelenskyy Urges U.S. Action on Russian Energy Breach”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of breaching an energy truce initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump. Zelenskyy, speaking at a security conference in Warsaw via video link, called on Washington to ensure Moscow’s compliance with the agreement. He expressed eagerness to learn the specifics of the terms between the U.S. and Russia and emphasized the need for American intervention to enforce the ceasefire.

Zelenskyy highlighted the potential effectiveness of the energy ceasefire in ending the conflict if the U.S. actively ensures Russian adherence to the agreement. The Regional Prosecutor’s Office of Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine reported an attack by Russian forces on an energy facility on the city’s outskirts. Zelenskyy noted ongoing Russian attacks on energy infrastructure in Kyiv and Kharkiv despite Trump’s ceasefire announcement.

Trump had previously announced a mutual agreement between the U.S. and Russia to halt attacks on energy sites. However, the details of the deal remain unclear, and Zelenskyy learned about it through media reports. The move aims to prevent Russia from using energy facility attacks as a tactic to weaken Ukrainian resistance during the conflict, a strategy dubbed as “weaponizing winter.”

On the international front, the EU’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, expressed skepticism about Russia’s commitment to the ceasefire. Kallas stressed the importance of protecting civilians and urged European nations to support Ukraine against Russia’s invasion. Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney conveyed strong support for the energy ceasefire but criticized the U.S.-Russia diesel deal, claiming it would benefit the Kremlin’s war efforts.

In a tragic turn of events, a Russian drone attack in the Kharkiv district killed three people and injured several others. Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted a significant number of Russian drones, countering the assault. Russian forces also targeted gas production facilities of Ukraine’s Naftogaz in the Kharkiv region, causing damage and a fire, as confirmed by Naftogaz’s acting CEO, Sergii Fedorenko.

The ongoing conflict continues to escalate, with both sides engaging in strikes and drone attacks on energy infrastructure. The situation remains volatile, with international observers closely monitoring developments in the region.
