“Welsh School Mourns Tragic Loss of Kind Teen”

A school in Wales has honored Lilly Jones, a 14-year-old girl who is the subject of a murder investigation following the discovery of a body on Monday. Described as kind, warm, and bubbly, Lilly was a student at Brynmawr Foundation School. She went missing from Blaina in Blaenau Gwent on Saturday, and the body was found near Duffryn Park during the search for her.

Though formal identification is pending, Gwent Police have notified Lilly’s family. A 14-year-old boy detained on suspicion of murder is currently in police custody. The head teacher of Brynmawr Foundation School expressed deep sorrow over Lilly’s tragic passing, emphasizing her significant role in the school community.

Brynmawr Foundation School conveyed heartfelt condolences to Lilly’s family and offered support to affected students and staff. The local community in Blaina expressed shock over the incident, leaving flowers and tributes near Duffryn Park in memory of Lilly. Additionally, a fundraiser has raised over £12,000 to support Lilly’s funeral and memorial expenses.

Detective Chief Inspector Steven Thomas stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding Lilly’s death. He urged anyone with information to come forward and cautioned against online speculation. Gwent Police have involved the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in the case, following standard procedures.

Rev. Liane Chalmers of St Peter’s Church in Blaina welcomed community members to pay tribute to Lilly at the church, offering a space for reflection and support. The community came together at the church, with attendees finding solace through conversations and candle lighting.
