Police are under investigation by a watchdog regarding their interaction with a mother shortly before she and her two daughters were tragically murdered. The victims, identified as Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, 42, Natalie, 15, and Nala, 5, were found deceased on July 6 after concerns were raised about their whereabouts. Nothabo’s husband, Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, a British citizen of Zimbabwean descent, has been charged with three counts of murder.
Following his departure from Britain, Tshuma was apprehended in Johannesburg, South Africa, and is awaiting extradition back to the UK. Bedfordshire Police acknowledged their prior contact with the victim and referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
An IOPC representative stated that an independent inquiry has been initiated into the interactions between Bedfordshire Police officers and the victims before the tragic events in Great Denham. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided in due course. Det Insp Lee Martin, the lead investigator, emphasized the active nature of the case and the collaboration with international authorities.
Tshuma’s arrest in South Africa was attributed to swift coordination and intelligence-led policing. His LinkedIn profile indicates a background in management information systems and financial crime investigation. Zandile, the victim, held a position as an associate director focusing on financial crimes like money laundering and fraud.
