“Virgin Media Slashes Price of Fastest Broadband to New Low”

Virgin Media has recently dropped the price of its fastest broadband package to a new low. The company has initiated an unexpected sale, slashing over £70 off its high-speed Gig1 Fibre Broadband. This service offers speeds of up to 1,130Mbps and typically costs £29.99 per month, but is currently available for £26.99, resulting in a total savings of £72 over the 24-month contract period, which averages out to approximately 87p per day.

According to Virgin Media, this reduced rate marks the “lowest ever price” for the Gig1 plan. With these speeds, users can download a feature-length HD film in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.

While households with 70Mbps speeds may experience a more than 90-minute download time for the same game, Virgin Media’s Gig1 plan ensures smooth streaming on platforms like Netflix and seamless online gaming experiences. However, it’s important to note that the discounted £26.99 rate will increase twice during the minimum term, reaching £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028. Additionally, the 1,130Mbps speeds may not be available to all UK households, so it is advisable to check availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.

Comparing Virgin Media’s Gig1 deal with competitors like Sky, despite Sky reducing its comparable 900Mbps plan to £28, Virgin’s offer remains more cost-effective and provides faster speeds. BT, on the other hand, offers its 900Mbps connection at a higher cost of £37.99. It’s also recommended to explore alternative network providers, as some emerging alt-nets in the UK are offering competitive pricing.

Community Fibre, for instance, currently provides 1Gbps speeds for £25 per month with the first three months free and fixed prices throughout the contract. However, this service is limited to London and selected south-east locations. It’s essential to assess individual internet speed requirements before committing to a lengthy contract. For instance, a couple streaming Netflix daily in a flat may suffice with speeds around 100Mbps, while larger households engaging in remote work, downloading content, and gaming online may benefit from speeds of at least 300Mbps.

Selecting Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre service is likened to having a high-speed motorway directly into your living space, ensuring a smooth online experience.
