“Vancouver Rise Bolster Squad with New Defenders”

The Vancouver Rise have received reinforcements this week as they gear up for a crucial match against the Halifax Tides. The Northern Super League club has signed two new defenders to strengthen their squad for the upcoming game.

Chantelle Swaby, who previously played for Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, who comes from NSL side AFC Toronto, have joined the Rise. Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller expressed confidence in the abilities of both players, emphasizing the unique qualities they bring to the team.

Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues, including the National Women’s Soccer League, the Scottish Women’s Premier League, and France’s top division. She is known for her composure and leadership on the field, which is expected to benefit the Rise in challenging game situations.

Hansen, aged 26, is excited to return home to Vancouver and play in front of a supportive crowd. Her addition to the team comes after the departure of Mariah Lee, who retired last month to pursue law school in New York.

In other news, goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan has been loaned to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season. The Rise, currently sitting five points behind Halifax in the playoff race, are determined to secure a postseason berth. Forward Jessica De Fillippo highlighted the team’s focus on making a strong playoff push and showcasing their competitiveness to fans and the league.

As the Rise (5-9-1) aim to close the gap with Halifax (6-6-3) in the standings, the team is gearing up for a crucial phase of the season. The players are motivated to prove their capabilities and strive for a playoff spot, building on their past success and aiming for a strong finish this year.
