A woman unexpectedly went into labor nine days early while enjoying a meal at home in Trimdon, County Durham. With her family’s quick thinking, she was rushed to the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton. However, en route, they had to make an emergency stop at an Esso garage in Sedgefield where the baby was born in the back seat of the car.
The newborn, weighing seven pounds and five ounces, is yet to be named by the parents but has been affectionately dubbed the ‘Esso garage baby’ by hospital staff. The aunt who assisted in the delivery praised the mother for her calmness during the unexpected situation.
The mother expressed her gratitude towards her sister for her decisive actions in handling the situation. The event has become a memorable story for the family, with nurses at the hospital fondly referring to the baby as the ‘Esso garage baby.’
This unique birth experience at a petrol station adds to a list of extraordinary birth stories, including a mid-air delivery on a flight and a birth in a Subway sandwich shop. Such remarkable occurrences serve as a testament to the unpredictability of childbirth.
