The oldest identical twins in the UK, Bill and John Bowdler, have spent 82 years together, sharing the same experiences, clothes, and occupations. Born in Birmingham in 1944, the brothers have maintained a strong bond that they credit for their exceptional health. Despite their near-constant togetherness, one notable difference between them is their preference for condiments – Bill enjoys brown sauce, while John dislikes it.
Following their schooling in 1960, the Bowdler twins embarked on parallel career paths, initially working at a wholesale distribution company in Birmingham. When the business folded, they transitioned together into becoming postmen. Their synchronicity even extended to needing cataract surgery on the same eye, performed simultaneously in the same medical facility.
Now in retirement, John takes the lead in choosing coordinated outfits for them each day, a tradition stemming from their mother. The twins share a deep connection, finishing each other’s sentences and displaying an uncanny resemblance that has often led to confusion among acquaintances. Their unwavering companionship has seen them through various life events, including joint hospital stays and shared leisure activities like grocery shopping, attending bingo games, and supporting Aston Villa football club.
