UK Set for Fourth Heatwave as Temperatures Soar

Latest weather forecasts indicate that temperatures are set to rise above 30C in the UK, potentially marking the fourth heatwave of the year. The UK is presently experiencing its third heatwave of 2026, with temperatures in southern regions expected to stay above 30C until the upcoming weekend.

The Met Office predicts a decrease in temperatures over the weekend, with highs of 26C in the south and 24C in the north on Sunday. This drop could signal the conclusion of the current heatwave.

However, weather models now suggest a quick return to 30-degree temperatures. The GFS model projects highs of 30C and 31C in various parts of England next Thursday.

Looking ahead to the following Friday, weather maps hint at possible highs of 32C in the south and south-east, with temperatures reaching 31C in western areas once again.

Conditions are expected to significantly warm up the following Saturday, with potential highs of 35C in southern and south-eastern England. Central regions could see temperatures of 33-34C, while even Yorkshire and Wales might reach highs of 32C and 30C, respectively.

Temperature anomaly maps for the upcoming Saturday show significant areas in England and Wales colored deep red, indicating temperatures well above normal. Northern Ireland and Scotland, shaded in blue, are expected to have cooler temperatures compared to the average.

The GFS model maps highlight that 17 counties in England could experience temperatures exceeding 34C next week.

David Hayter, the deputy chief meteorologist at the Met Office, mentioned that the UK has been experiencing temperatures of 30C or higher for the last 11 days consecutively. While a cooler spell is anticipated, some locations may continue to experience heatwave conditions.

Despite the expected cooling trend this weekend, forecasters anticipate a return to very warm conditions in the south shortly after, with a chance of thunderstorms towards the end of the following week.
