Three individuals tragically lost their lives after falling from a 213-foot-tall tourist attraction in Germany. The incident occurred at the Harz Tower in Altenau, located in the Goslar district of Lower Saxony, where two men and a woman fell around 4:40 pm. Despite the efforts of emergency services, they could not be rescued.
Authorities have cordoned off the area and erected privacy screens as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. Reports suggest that the victims, two adults, and a child were all from the same family. Local police have stated that there is currently no indication of negligence by any third party.
The Harzturm observation platform was the scene of the tragedy, with the first responders discovering the three individuals with fatal injuries. The police emphasized that no third-party negligence has been identified at this stage. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
According to reports from the German outlet Stern, the victims were all members of the same family, and initial investigations do not implicate any structural issues with the building. The tower, managed by Harzturm GmbH, announced its closure on July 17, 2026, following the incident.
Situated in Torfhaus, the highest village in the Harz Mountains of Germany, the tower is renowned as the tallest observation tower in the country since its public opening in 2024. Constructed with a mix of wood and steel, the tower cost approximately €10 million to build and includes a glass-floored skywalk at a height of 45 meters.
Visitors can access the top of the tower via stairs or a lift and enjoy a thrilling 110-meter slide.
