The UK is set to experience a drop in temperatures by the end of this week as the third heatwave of 2026 comes to a close. The country has already faced three scorching spells this year, resulting in record-breaking temperatures and various health issues. However, forecasters are predicting relief in the coming days.
According to the latest weather forecast from the Met Office, meteorologist Aidan McGivern explained that a shift in high pressure will lead to a decrease in peak temperatures over the weekend. While temperatures will still be above average, a noticeable cooling trend is expected by Sunday.
Temperatures are projected to reach the mid to high-20s over the weekend, with the warmest conditions anticipated in Wales and the south-west. The Met Office’s forecast indicates highs of 29C in the south on Saturday and 24C in the north, dropping to 25C and 22C respectively on Sunday.
BBC weather forecasts are aligned with the Met Office predictions, expecting a gradual easing of temperatures towards the end of the week. Some areas may also experience light rain as conditions cool off.
The BBC forecast suggests that Friday will see a decrease in warmth with varying cloud cover, while Saturday may bring more clouds, especially in northern and eastern regions. Sunday is likely to remain mostly dry with intermittent clouds and a possibility of isolated showers in western England.
