Man Assaults Seagull in Front of Children at Cornwall Cafe

Police in Cornwall are currently investigating an incident where a man allegedly assaulted a seagull in the presence of distressed children at a seaside town. The seagull reportedly suffered from broken wings as a result of the attack, which occurred near the harbor in Porthleven on Monday afternoon.

According to witnesses, the man targeted the seagull at the Harbour View Café after it tried to snatch his food. Descriptions on social media claim that the man aggressively struck the bird against the café wall and then pushed it through a fence, leading to the bird sustaining injuries to its wings.

The witness who reported the incident mentioned that there were shocked children witnessing the brutal act. The man’s actions left the seagull struggling on the road with two broken wings, causing distress among onlookers.

Devon and Cornwall Police are urging anyone with relevant information or footage of the incident to come forward. The authorities are actively investigating the case, following reports of the seagull being harmed by the man at the harbor in Porthleven. Individuals with information are encouraged to contact the police via phone or website reference number 50260183379.

It is important to note that seagulls, like all wild birds, are protected by law. The RSPCA emphasizes that gulls, their offspring, and nests are safeguarded under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Deliberately harming or disturbing gulls, their eggs, or nests without a proper license is considered illegal. Certain gull species, such as herring gulls and kittiwakes, are listed on the UK Red List due to concerns about their declining populations.
