A man from the UK faces charges of negligence in connection with the tragic death of his three-year-old son, who fell from a fourth-floor hotel window in Cyprus.
According to reports, the child fell from the fourth floor of a hotel in Chloraka, Paphos, while playing with his father. Despite prompt arrival of an ambulance at the scene around 6:40 pm on July 12, the boy was unresponsive.
Subsequently, he was rushed to Paphos General Hospital where medical staff pronounced him deceased. Following the incident, the 37-year-old father was taken into custody.
The grieving family, accompanied by a five-year-old girl, had just begun their holiday that day. The heartbreaking event unfolded in front of the boy’s grandfather as they were making their way downstairs for dinner.
The father appeared in the Paphos district court the following morning, where law enforcement requested an eight-day remand to aid their investigation. Local media reported an emotional courtroom scene with the father breaking down in tears, leading to a pause in the proceedings.
Michalis Nikolaou, the Assistant Police Director of Operations in Paphos, confirmed that the father is charged with causing death through a reckless or dangerous act, as well as with neglect of duty and responsibility towards his family.
The UK Foreign Office informed The Sun that they are providing assistance to the British family affected by the child’s tragic loss in Cyprus and are cooperating with local authorities.
